Democratic Dialogue 2.0 – Mock Parliament

Objective

Democratic Dialogue 2.0 aimed to provide students with a realistic simulation of parliamentary proceedings on the theme “One Nation, One Election.” The event focused on enhancing policy understanding, legislative awareness, public speaking, critical thinking, decision-making, teamwork, and parliamentary decorum.

Event Overview

The session commenced with the National Anthem and an Oath-Taking Ceremony. The event was conducted in three rounds followed by voting:

  • Ministerial Round: Members of the Ruling Party and Opposition presented their views on the feasibility and implications of “One Nation, One Election.”
  • Rebuttal Round: Participants engaged in cross-questioning and counterarguments on constitutional, administrative, and practical aspects of the motion.
  • Closing Remarks: Leaders of both parties delivered concluding speeches summarising their respective positions.
  • Voting: The motion resulted in a tie. The Speaker exercised the tie-breaking vote against the motion, concluding that “One Nation, One Election should not be implemented.”
