International Yoga Day: Wellness with Virtual Desk Yoga

On June 21, 2024, in celebration of International Yoga Day, the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Noida, held a unique virtual session focused on desk and chair yoga. This event was hosted on Zoom by the Department of Sports, Recreation, and Wellness (DSRW) in partnership with the Symbiosis Centre for Yoga. The goal was to integrate the benefits of yoga into the daily routines of students and staff, particularly for those with busy schedules and long hours spent at their desks.

The virtual desk yoga session was led by certified instructors and featured simple, effective postures and breathing techniques that can be practiced while seated. Participants learned various stretches aimed at relieving tension in the neck, shoulders, and back—areas that are commonly affected by prolonged sitting. Additionally, the session highlighted the importance of mental relaxation, incorporating mindfulness practices to promote a calm and focused mindset.

This accessible approach to yoga on International Yoga Day was well-received by the SIBM community. As academic and professional demands increase, desk yoga provides a practical way to incorporate physical wellness and mindfulness, even during the busiest days.
